Real Estate

In addition to the underlying land, "real estate" also includes everything that is permanently attached to the land, such as a house.  A parcel of vacant land valued at $50,000 that later has a $250,000 house constructed on it will have a total real estate value of $300,000.

Enter the amount of your estate value that is attributable to real estate located within this state.  If the real estate is located in a state other than that for this Intestacy Calculator, you will not include its value here.  To determine the distribution of intestate real estate, open the Intestacy Calculator for the state of its physical location and use its value as the estate value and, if asked, as the real estate value.

For example, if you entered an estate value of $500,000 which includes a second home located in the state that is valued at $100,000 you will enter $100,000 in this box.

If, on the other hand, the second home is located in another state, you should reset the Intestacy Calculator and use and estate value of $400,000.  When complete, open the Intestacy Calculator for the state where the real estate is located and enter an estate value of $100,000.
