Domestic Partner: Washington D.C.

A domestic partner is a person with whom an individual maintains a committed relationship (a familial relationship between two individuals characterized by mutual caring and the sharing of a mutual residence) and who has registered by executing a declaration of domestic partnership that is filed with the Mayor.

No one can register as a domestic partner unless both parties are (1) at least 18 years old and competent to contract; (2) the sole domestic partner of the other person; and (3) not married.

This selection in the Washington D.C. Intestacy Calculator™ only applies to those who have made a proper registration which has not been terminated prior to the death of either partner.
